Being Green

Nevada City's Being Green Retail ShopBeing Green Conscious Choices for All store in downtown Nevada City (located at 408 Broad Street in the New York Hotel) offers eco-friendly goods for the whole family and home.  Earth friendly items include housewares, bedding, body care, clothing, gifts and more.  With the Wild & Scenic Film Festival coming to town to inspire us all (this year’s theme is “Empowerment”) I thought now would be a great time to highlight a local shop that’s providing locals and visitors and an option to buy earth friendly, fair trade items and sustainably made clothing.  Being Green has offered up a special giveaway for one lucky InnSide Nevada City blog reader, a pair of Fire and Light wine goblets (see below).  Click here to watch about how they turn broken glass bottles into recycled glass tableware.  For your chance to win the glasses (valued at $65.90) please post a comment here on what environmentally friendly change you’ve made in your household, winner will be announced on Saturday, January 11th.Nevada City Shop Being Green Being Green, Nevada City Being Green, Nevada City Clothing, household and beauty items

We do our best to recycle and repurpose items whenever we can in our household and support small businesses and artist that do the same!

Thank you for bringing Being Green to our attention! Looks like they have some fabulous buys 🙂

Wishing everyone, Good Luck and Happy Greening!

This year we did one small thing and one big thing. Small: We only use cloth napkins for meals now which cuts way down on paper use, especially with the kiddos. Big: We added four chickens to our family. Not only do we get fresh eggs, but they eat food scraps and old leftovers that would’ve gone into the trash can.

Water conservation. We never ask for more water at a restaurant unless we’ve finished our glass first. We now make a conscious effort to turn off the water between tooth brushings, dog baths, and dish washing.

We use our own shopping bags, keeping a stack in our trunks at all times, and get all of our bills online. MOST importantly… we use recycled wine bottles from BYOB! (Such a sacrifice )

We have converted to drinking water from our local Springs. No more plastic!

CaCoCo is using compostable bags to hold our drinking chocolate mix and compostable cups to serve CaCoCo at events and farmers market.

I always take my reusable bags to the grocery store. We use cloth napkins and earth friendly products at home…and recycle everything we can!

We use cloth bags for all our shopping, use solar panels to help provide energy, composite our kitchen “waste” and have built in a recycling pull out drawer to recycle paper, plastic, etc..

Next on the list….do more walking to work.

We Reuse whenever possible, don’t use paper plates and use old towels for rags instead of paper towels.
We only buy items with multiple uses and create gift tags out if old Christmas cards.

    🙂

    Love Being Green!!!!!

Thanks for all the sweet comments about Being Green! My husband and I took over ownership of the shop in August. It has been such a pleasure getting to know all the “regulars”! We have been very encouraged by the kind and positive feedback on the changes we have made! Please stop in and say, “hi” if you’re in town for Wild and Scenic and good luck in the giveaway contest!

I’ve been a rabid recycler since the 1st Earth Day way back in the 70’s, so I am constantly finding things that we can recycle rather than toss. I also use cloth/reusable bags for groceries and other shopping. I especially love using the ones my mother made and used herself.
