Happy New Year’s Eve… Before we get to the winner of our Ultimate Nevada City giveaway I thought it would be fun to list my top ten reasons why I love Nevada City. I was in awe of the variety of reasons why people loved Nevada City– popular trends were the people, the Outside Inn, the Yuba, Victorian Christmas, the beauty.

The ultimate Nevada City giveaway… I’ve decided that I’ve had so much fun on the blog this year, that why not end the year by going big. We live in the an amazing community and I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing a slice of our world, so I wanted to give one big huge thanks to all the folks who I’ve promoted, plugged, photographed and gotten to know over the last year. Celebration of Life Triathlon Raffle Giveaway
Are you training for the upcoming Barbara Schmidt Millar Celebration of Life Triathlon out at Scotts Flat Lake? The event takes place on September 16th at 9am on the Cascade Shores, with women of all abilities and ages swimming, biking and running. The money raised from the event goes to help fund mammograms at the Women’s Imaging Center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and a scholarship for a local high school student who’s planning on studying in the health care profession.
The Outside Inn’s has always been a sponsor of the event, but this year we’ve decided to use the InnSide Nevada City blog to have a bit of a giveaway of some raffle tickets. Fixing the Future, Think Local First film screening
Think Local First has teamed up with the Nevada Theatre to bring Nevada City a screening of the film Fixing the Future A nationwide screening is taking place this month and we’re lucky enough to host the event on Sunday, July 22nd at 7:30pm. Following the film screening there will be a pre-recorded panel discussion by Bill McKibben, Majora Carter, Mike Brady and David Brancaccio and then a live panel discussion by local western Nevada County businesses and experts. Heidi Bergman, Think Local’s First board member, stated in her press release, “This is a great opportunity to raise awareness about some ways we can strengthen our economy. It’s a sharing of ideas and way to get people involved. Outside Magazine best towns
Every year, Outside Magazine puts out an issue that features the best towns to live in if you’re an outdoorsy, active person. The list usually includes a lot of the usual suspects: Boulder, Colorado, Burlington, Vermont, Bozeman, Montana, and Bend, Oregon, often make the top 10. But this year, there’s a new town up for voting. That’s right: Our very own Nevada City.
My sister, Megan Michelson, a former editor at Outside Magazine and a Nevada City native, has a unique perspective on this. She has been in the editorial meetings at Outside’s Santa Fe, New Mexico, headquarters when the editors are debating the merits of one town versus another. She recounted some of the previous debates:

Soroptimist Garden Tour plus giveaway
The Soroptimist Garden Tour will be taking place this coming weekend (May 19th and 20th) throughout Nevada County, for a map click here. Take a tour of some amazing gardens either Saturday or Sunday between 10am and 4pm and help support the non-profit Soroptimist International organization. The weather is warming up in Nevada City and it’s a perfect time to visit our friends at Treats. As you can see below their ice cream doesn’t last long!
