Deer Creek Tribute Trail

The new Deer Creek Tribute Trail suspension bridge is open and the extension of the trail is a great new addition to the downtown Nevada City trail network.  “This new segment of trail and this new pedestrian bridge are part of the larger trail network called the Deer Creek Tribute Trail, which pays homage to difference cultural communities from the region around different sections of the trail. This new segment and bridge pays tribute to the Nisenan people of the Nevada City Rancheria, who will be honored at the opening celebration,” says Amber Taxiera from the Sierra Fund.  The trail construction was done by Forest Trails Alliance,  engineering by Holdredge & Kull and Seattle Bridge Company designed and installed the bridge.  Additional project partners include: CA Natural Resources Agency, The Sierra Fund, the City of Nevada City, Forest Trails Alliance, the Foothills Nisenan of the Nevada City Rancheria, American Rivers and Sierra Streams Institute.  The Outside Inn has update our trail map, so if you’re unfamiliar with where the trail please stop by our office for a free map (available to locals and guests).  The access to the Deer Creek Tribute Trail from the Outside Inn will take you less than 10 minutes on foot. The official opening celebration for the suspension bridge is on Tuesday October 28th from 11:00 am-12:30pm, ceremony begins at 11:30 am.  It’s great that our local trail network has expanded, so enjoy this beautiful weather and grab a friend and go for a hike or jump on your bike.  Have you been to down to check it out? Found a petroglyph?  Signed up to do trail work with Forest Trails Alliance to help build more local trails?

Great Photo’s Erin, I am very excited to check out the extension of the Deer Creek Tribute Trail when Miles and I come up for Halloween. It looks like a beautiful walk to take and I love that we can get there from the Outside Inn by foot. It is so wonderful how many unique adventures we can take and all on foot from the Motel. See you in a few weeks.

I love being able to hike these trails from downtown Nevada City. There is no need to drive anywhere to enjoy the scenic beauty that surrounds our town. The trails, walls and bridges are artfully constructed. The entire project was a remarkably successful collaborative community effort.

Love the new bridge, but for this acrophobe, it was a little hair-raising when I walked across it on Sunday for the first time. We are so lucky to have these excellently built trails!!!
