Empire Mine State Historic Park

Empire Mine State ParkEmpire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley is a great place to spend a couple of hours, whether you’re a visitor to the area, a local or attending a wedding.  The park is set in the location of the oldest, largest and richest mine in California.  My research assistants were in awe of the underground mine and are very excited to hear about the proposed project to expand the tour farther into the network of underground mines.  For a schedule of tours and events, click here, the park is open from 10am-5pm, entrance fee for adults is $7.  In addition to the mining artifacts, Cottage grounds and exhibits the Empire Mine also has an extensive trail network, so bring your hiking books, mountain biking or go horseback riding through the park. © 2013 InnSide Nevada City, photos by Erin Thiem
