Mud and Pearls Car Class

Mud and Pearls, Samantha Hinrichs’ DIY, hands on learning community, has an upcoming class called “Start Your Engines.”  The 2 part class will be taught by Karl Salmonson and offers both women and men an opportunity to get the basics about your car.  No previous mechanical knowledge needed, learn how to check and change: brake fluid, engine oil, coolant, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid, and transmission fluid, plus lots more.  “It is a great opportunity to save money and have a reassurance about your car,” said Sam.    The class is being taught Friday night, March 7th, 6:30-8:30pm (dinner included) and Saturday, March 8th, from 11am-3pm at Sierra Commons in Nevada City.  Sam has generously offered up one free spot to a reader of the InnSide Nevada City blog (value $150), please post a comment on this blog post about your favorite road trip location and I’ll draw the winner on Monday, February 24th.  While I don’t have any knowledge about cars, I can tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed a previous class by Mud and Pearls on resorting furniture at Habitat for Humanity, click here to see that previous blog post.  Have you taken any classes lately?  Learned a new skill?  I am always curious to know more about other great learning opportunities in our community.  Mud and Pearls DIY Class© 2014 InnSide Nevada City, © Photos by Erin Thiem

Favorite road trip location: that’s a tough one, but hard to beat Highway 4 in the vicinity of Lake Alpine, Mosquito Lakes, and Pacific Valley…childhood camping memories for multiple generations in my family….pics of my mom and her cousins in the 20s!

(Erin: is resorting furniture akin to making old furniture suitable for use at the Awahnee? 🙂 )

I love loops — especially that involves the coast and mountains .. i.e, driving up hwy101 to oregon, cross inland, catch a play in ashland, and back down by shasta.
also love journeys thru the Southwest .. and montana/wyoming/idaho

I love driving to the Mendocino coast past Clear Lake. You can stop for a soak at Wilbur Hot Springs, another soak at Orr Hot Springs, and take walks in state parks along the way. There’s good, vegetarian-friendly food in Ukiah at Ellie’s Mutt Hut. I love to ride my bike along low-travel parts of Hwy 1. It’s fun to stay at Jug Handle Farm. And the positive ions at the ocean always put me in a great mood before I turn around and come home.

favorite road trip is san francisco. love to take the short two-and-a-half hour drive to the city by the bay. first stop is the ferry builiding for their fabulous farmers market…always come away with something(s) fabulous! beach? park? book stores? fabulous restaurants? so many things to choose from. never the same trip twice. on the way home i always stop in berkeley for a little local flavor…great shopping, great food, great art house films. best part…back in my own bed at a fairly reasonable hour!

I always forget how close San Francisco really is when I head to the ocean… beach, beach sounds lovely with this warm weather we’ve been having.
