Local Roots Food Tour

The Gold Discovery Walking Food Tour by Local Roots Food Tours is a great way to explore downtown Nevada City.  The tour combines a combination of history, walking, architecture and fabulous food.  Sample menus from seven different downtown restaurants, each with their own unique flavor.  I was fortunate enough to tag along with the tour today and our pit stops included: The National Hotel, Lefty’s Grill, Elevensies Crepes, The Nevada City Chocolate Shoppe, Sopa Thai, Cafe Mekka and the Stonehouse.  I love the fact that I got to be a tourist in my hometown, learn some interesting history about the gold rush days and eat some delicious foods.  The 3 1/2 hour tours start at $52, a great value for the amount of food you get, click here for their schedule.  For photos from today’s tour click below, or click here to see additional … Read More »

Nevada City Boardwalk

Posted on September 1st, by erin in coffee, Nevada City. No Comments

There’s a new boardwalk in downtown Nevada City and it’s attracting all sorts of attention.  Cafe Mekka owner Corey Bristow was excited to see the addition to the street and said it’s been great for business.  ”I’m totally on board” he said with a smile. So grab a latte and a newspaper, the new place to be seen in Nevada City is on Commerical Street.  For a more in depth article on the boardwalk, click here to read The Union’s recent article.

Cafe Mekka

Looking for a cup of coffee in Nevada City?  While we don’t have a Starbucks, there are a number of locally owned options within the downtown area.  Cafe Mekka on Commerical Street, next to the new Pete’s Pizza, has a great ambiance.  Stop by for a fabulous cup of coffee, or check your email in one of their comfy chairs or indulge with a DeGroot’s dessert.  Cafe Mekka is open 7 days a week and open late on Fridays and Saturdays.
