Cafe Mekka, Nevada City. They’re updating their Facebook page and needed some new photos, so I went digging through the various posts from the last year (click here for my first post, here for the Local Roots Food Tour with tasting of Temple Coffee, here for the Nevada City Boardwalk and here for Sheila Cameron’s art for the Wild & Scenic Film Festival Artist Showcase). And then I decided to stop by and sample Yuba Chai while meeting a friend and took some more photos (top left mug). As a special thank you to Outside Inn and Cafe Mekka fans, I’m going to give away 5 buy one get one free coupons to Cafe Mekka, just post a comment on this blog post about what you like about Cafe Mekka and I’ll draw the winners on Friday.

The Wild and Scenic Film Festival and the Nevada County Arts will be transforming Nevada City and Grass Valley into art galleries this weekend. Sixty two different artists, including a number of local artists, will be showcasing their works in a variety of venues. Cafe Mekka is displaying works by local artist Sheila Cameron. For a map stop by the Alpha Building at the bottom of Broad Street, or attend the artist reception on Saturday 4:30- 6:30 during the wine stroll organized by the Nevada City Chamber (with tastings by BYOB, Nevada City Winery, Avanguardia Wines, Clavey Wines, Szabo Vineyards and Indian Springs Vineyards).

The Gold Discovery Walking Food Tour by Local Roots Food Tours is a great way to explore downtown Nevada City. The tour combines a combination of history, walking, architecture and fabulous food. Sample menus from seven different downtown restaurants, each with their own unique flavor. I was fortunate enough to tag along with the tour today and our pit stops included: The National Hotel, Lefty’s Grill, Elevensies Crepes, The Nevada City Chocolate Shoppe, Sopa Thai, Cafe Mekka and the Stonehouse. I love the fact that I got to be a tourist in my hometown, learn some interesting history about the gold rush days and eat some delicious foods. The 3 1/2 hour tours start at $52, a great value for the amount of food you get, click here for their schedule. For photos from today’s tour click below, or click here to see additional … Read More »
There’s a new boardwalk in downtown Nevada City and it’s attracting all sorts of attention. Cafe Mekka owner Corey Bristow was excited to see the addition to the street and said it’s been great for business. ”I’m totally on board” he said with a smile. So grab a latte and a newspaper, the new place to be seen in Nevada City is on Commerical Street. For a more in depth article on the boardwalk, click here to read The Union’s recent article.
Looking for a cup of coffee in Nevada City? While we don’t have a Starbucks, there are a number of locally owned options within the downtown area. Cafe Mekka on Commerical Street, next to the new Pete’s Pizza, has a great ambiance. Stop by for a fabulous cup of coffee, or check your email in one of their comfy chairs or indulge with a DeGroot’s dessert. Cafe Mekka is open 7 days a week and open late on Fridays and Saturdays.
