Malakoff Diggins Loop Trail

Posted on May 21st, by erin in hiking, Nevada City, Outdoor Activities, trails. 5 comments

Looking for an outdoor adventure?  Check out Malakoff State Historic Park, the park has many miles of trails to compliment the rich mining history it offers visitors.  The stark, moonscape land formations are the result of hydraulic gold mining from the 1850′s to the 1880′s.  After a visit to the town of North Bloomfield, you have choices of walks from 1/4 mile to nearly three miles.  This Diggins Trail Loop is 2.7 miles long and it feels exotic and other worldly.  The day’s adventure is well worth the drive from downtown Nevada City.  The winner from last week’s Schad Studios greeting cards is Cathy.

The annual Nevada City B.E.A.R. (Be Excited About Reading) Storybook Character Parade is another fabulous reason why I love our community.  School children marched proudly down Broad Street dressed as their favorite book character to the cheers of supportive fans.  ”We are so lucky to live in a town/community where they will close down the street for an hour for our kids to be able to show off their love of reading,” said Kathryn Boswell.  ”I am so proud to be one of those parents and I know my boys were grinning from ear to ear the entire walk down Broad Street today.”  Thank you to Joe Limov,  Julie Bryan and the Nevada City School District PTA for continuing such a fabulous local tradition.  Kudos to the Nevada City City Council for kicking off the parade, we loved … Read More »

Have you tried the Bistro 221?  Melissa Bryant, from Cirino’s, took over the old Lefty’s location and opened up a new downtown Nevada City lunch and dinner restaurant.  Check their Facebook page for specials and new menus.  My research assistant said to try the fried chicken, while the younger crew recommended the chicken strips and fries.  The back Assay Room is still available for private parties, give them a call if you’re looking to organize a meeting or birthday party.  Bistro 221 has offered up one lucky Outside Inn blog reader a $20 gift certificate.  Please post a comment on who’d you take with you if you won and I’ll draw the winner on Saturday, May 18th.
