Last Minute Christmas Shopping
Are you a last minute shopper? Here are a few suggestions on some gift ideas for someone in Nevada City, or someone who’d like to visit the area. If you can’t make it to the last Victorian Christmas today, here are a few suggestions, or stop by any number of the downtown merchants.
First up, why not buy a weekend away package? Buy an Outside Inn gift certificate (we’re more then happy to email you the gift certificate, if you can’t stop by in person). For the lucky recipient, why not throw in a gift certificate to a dinner out and a wine tasting in downtown Nevada City? (We’ll throw in the directions to the river, for free).

Ultimate Nevada City Giveaway
The ultimate Nevada City giveaway… I’ve decided that I’ve had so much fun on the blog this year, that why not end the year by going big. We live in the an amazing community and I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing a slice of our world, so I wanted to give one big huge thanks to all the folks who I’ve promoted, plugged, photographed and gotten to know over the last year. My basket started with a few left over goodies from previous giveaways and took on a life of its own… It’s now turned into the ultimate Nevada City weekend. I’ve got photos of all the goodies in the baskets below, but here’s a breakdown of what’s included.

South Pine Cafe
South Pine Cafe in downtown Nevada City is one of the Outside Inn’s favorite recommendations for breakfast or lunch. Whether you’re looking for the ollaberry french toast, the kid friendly mouse cakes or my personal favorite the Blackstone Benedict, you’re bound to find something tasty to fill your tummy. The casual atmosphere attracts both locals and visitors seven days a week from 8am to 3pm. George at the South Pine Cafe has offered up one lucky InnSide Nevada City blog reader a free meal on him (up to $35 value), post a comment on this blog post on your favorite dish and I’ll draw the winner on Wednesday, October 17th.

Are you training for the upcoming Barbara Schmidt Millar Celebration of Life Triathlon out at Scotts Flat Lake? The event takes place on September 16th at 9am on the Cascade Shores, with women of all abilities and ages swimming, biking and running. The money raised from the event goes to help fund mammograms at the Women’s Imaging Center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and a scholarship for a local high school student who’s planning on studying in the health care profession.
The Outside Inn’s has always been a sponsor of the event, but this year we’ve decided to use the InnSide Nevada City blog to have a bit of a giveaway of some raffle tickets. Grass Valley South Pine Cafe
There are a number of great choices in Nevada City for breakfast and lunch, but our family decided to go visit the South Pine Cafe in Grass Valley for a change of pace. Both locations offer the same great menu, whether you’re in the mood for Lobster Benedict or the Southwestern Turkey Grill. The favorite breakfast choice for the younger crew half of our party is always the mousecakes, pancakes decorated to look like a mouse. The South Pine Cafe in Grass Valley is located on Richardson Street, open 8am to 3pm every day of the week. Or you can always stick to the Nevada City restaurant, located on South Pine Street. But make sure you’re hungry, because who can resist ollaliberry pancakes or a carne asado burrito?
Nevada City Adult Soapbox Derby
The inaugural Nevada City Adult Soapbox Derby was held today as a fundraiser for Pioneer Park in Nevada City. Forty two individual creations were raced, three at a time, down Nimrod Street as a fun, environmentally friendly community event. Many local businesses entered the race including: BYOB, Mountain Recreation, Empire Fence, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, South Pine Cafe, McGee’s and Tour of Nevada City Bike Shop. What’s not to love about watching a pirate ship, an outhouse and a dragon chariot race down the street? For even more photos please click here.
South Yuba Trail
Cookie and Kevin Gallegos recently stayed at the Outside Inn to celebrate their wedding anniversary. While here in Nevada City they checked out the local scene, ate some delicious food at California Organics and South Pine Cafe. But the outdoorsy pair really wanted to go for a hike, and didn’t let the cool February frost stand in their way. The South Yuba River in Nevada City offers hiking, biking and swimming (in the summer). Cookie and Kevin chose the trailhead from Edwards and walked downstream, an 8 mile section of the extensive trail network. They said it was a little chilly at first, but beautiful and definitely a worthwhile hike at this time of the year. Plus the pair enjoyed the fact that they were the only ones down by the river.
