The Children’s Festival

The Children's Festival, Pioneer Park, Nevada CityThe Children's Festival, Nevada City, Pioneer ParkThe Children’s Festival returned to Nevada City today, with two sessions (9am-noon and 5pm-8pm) and transformed part of Pioneer Park into a mini Renaissance Faire geared for children.  There were more than 20 interactive sessions were set up in the trees, providing kids an opportunity to paint, create arts, learn about fencing, watch a Pyrate Skool, pay the Troll, make a fairy wand, watch a fire-breathing dragon and so much more.  What I love about the event is that it’s completely volunteer run, so many, many thanks to the many people who work so hard to create this magical experience.  It is truly one of those unique to Nevada City experiences.  If you missed the event this year, feel free to follow their Facebook page for updates on the 2015 event.  Did you go, what was your favorite part?  Did someone make you a homemade crown too?  Did you catch any of the live entertainment?  If you’re looking for more kid-friendly activities, check out my recent blog post on things to do with kids in the summer.

We’ve never been but this year we contributed cardboard for the castles. 🙂 It sounds like a fabulous and magical event. A few years ago our then very young neighbor was asked to be the Ogre’s assistant. He was dressed to play the part and had a ball. So glad the weather was a bit cooler on Friday.

Thanks for the comment, did you see the grin on my child’s face while painting the cardboard in this post? Pure joy. It’s a great local event.
