Where We Live

Nevada County is located in Northern California and ranges from near sea level in the great Sacramento Valley, to over 9,000 feet. With numerous rivers, lakes, mountains and meadows Nevada County is a natural attraction for snow skiers, water skiers, fisherfolk, kayakers, houseboaters, sailboaters, hikers, mountain and road bikers, and everybody who enjoys the great outdoors, whatever the season. For a wealth of information about Nevada County, please visit our friends at Sierra Food Wine Art or Nevada County Gold Online Magazine.

In the heart of Nevada County is Nevada City. Nevada City is among the most interesting of all towns born in the California Gold Rush. Realizing the town’s historic importance, the civic leaders have committed to preparing for the future by preserving the past. Nevada City’s entire downtown district is a national historic landmark where guests enjoy quality restaurants, live theater and music, specialty shopping, coffee houses, galleries and museums.

View of Downton Nevada City. The Outside Inn is located just a short walk from downtown in a quiet neighborhood of Victorian homes. Today Nevada City is home to about 2800 residents, but at one time in the 1850′s Nevada City rivaled San Francisco and Sacramento in population. It was incorporated in 1850 as Nevada, (Spanish for snow covered), but the town’s name was later changed to Nevada City, after its title was borrowed by the new state to the east.

In recent years the Nevada City lifestyle has attracted artists, writers, sports enthusiasts, and musicians. The area also draws business entrepreneurs who are able to locate their enterprises away from the pressures of big city life.
