BriarPatch Co-op has welcomed in 2016 with some exciting news. Not only is it the co-op’s 40th anniversary, the Patch also had the opportunity to purchase the building and property it’s called home for the past eight and a half years on December 31, 2015. Purchasing the property also means there are plans in store for improvements – beginning with the parking lot. The store has come a long way from its first days at the airport on Loma Rica Drive. Now, it’s one of the major employers in Nevada County, with over 200 employees.
Since the store has rung in the New Year in such style, the Patch would also like to help out four people with their resolutions. They’re giving away four gift cards worth $10 each as part of their 40th anniversary celebration. Stock up on healthy vegetables from the produce department, whole grains from the bulk department, or a quick and tasty dinner from the hot bar, made with natural and organic ingredients. Look for the local signs to learn which farmer grew the food you’re buying. Find some fantastic wine options, both local and regional, in the wine section or local coffee roasters Fable Coffee as well as Equal Exchange, a co-op dedicated to fair trade wages and organic products. The Patch also offers cooking classes each week to help guide you in your healthy cooking journey. (Click here and here to see photos from previous cooking class adventures on the Outside Inn’s blog).
BriarPatch continues to be dedicated to supporting the community, with programs such as selling tickets to local shows, showcasing local artists in The Good Food Gallery and eating area, and with its Co-op CAUSE this month Hospitality House is the recipient. BriarPatch is also a proud sponsor of this weekend’s Food and Farm Conference. To enter to win one of the gift certificates to BriarPatch post a comment on this blog post wishing them happy 40th anniversary, winner will be announced on Wednesday, January 13th.
