The event offers the community a safe, supportive and fun-filled day that begins with complimentary snacks and coffee provided by BriarPatch Co-op along with an inspiring trail talk and photo presentation on Around Lake Tahoe in 15 Days and 165 Miles on the Tahoe Rim Trail and ends with local hikes guided by the Bear Yuba Land Trust, Sierra Club: Sierra Nevada Group, California Native Plant Society, Wendy Riley of MOMs on the Mountains and MOVE Fitness Studio, 49th Gold Country Scout Group and Folk Trails in and around Nevada City and Grass Valley including Empire Mine, Tribute Trail, Independence Trail, Hirschman’s Pond and Woodpecker Reserve, among others. Check in for the event starts at the Gold Miners Inn in downtown Grass Valley at 8:30am on Saturday.
On the hikes, participants will learn more about local natural history, meet new friends and reconnect with old ones, and gain some basic outdoor skills to use on their next hike. There are hikes for plant lovers & naturalists, join Susan Schreiber of the CNPS-Redbud Chapter on this fun hike to learn more about the native plants and trees, and the stories of this ecologically diverse and rich stretch of the Deer Creek Tribute Trail. Or do a longer loop of the trail down to the Chinese Pedestrian Bridge with Wendy Riley, founder of MOMs on the Mountains and MOVE Fitness Studio. For Yuba River lovers join Sierra Club guide Anya Cooper-Hynell on the Hoyt Crossing at 49 Bridge. Rock Creek Nature Trail off Highway 20 with Celeste Neiser is the perfect option for families & educators looking to engage children in nature.
Only a mile from the heart of downtown Nevada City, you can join the Folk Trails Hiking Club local history walk to Hirschman Pond and learn about the pioneer miners and merchants, in addition to the local flora and fauna. Regardless of which hike you you choose, it’s a great opportunity to get outside and explore Nevada County. Advance registration is recommended, as space is limited, so click here to purchase your ticket. If you’re not able to join the event this Saturday, leave a comment and share your favorite local hiking spot. And friendly reminder the next Inn Town Campground/Folk Trails Hiking Club meet up is Thursday, May 10th at 5pm.
