Hello from the Outside Inn and a very quiet Nevada City. The entire world is stunned by coronavirus, and this unprecedented time in our history. We understand how hard this time is for so many of our guests and we share your frustrations, fears and sadness. Every cancellation is the story of an altered reality: weddings cancelled, events postponed, family not seen, and on, and on. Everyone is affected.
Before the Governor and the Public Health Department ordered us all to shelter-in-place, we had begun telling people to stay home. Every fiber of our business and personal ethos has been about welcoming guests into our community as friends, even if just for a night. But we want to be responsible members of the community, which right now means we can only host people for truly essential needs. For the rest of us, it’s time to just stay home. It’s hard for us to see town, indeed the world, shut down.
As a local blogger, I have taken pride over the last 9 years in sharing the many things to do in our area. A lot of those activities, places and business are currently closed, including our business. However, you can still buy a book, order take out, support your local farmers, get coffee delivered, buy a gift certificate or do a yoga class through the computer. But what makes this community so special are the people, locals and visitors alike; and currently, I’m missing all my people.
With events, weddings, concerts, and every-day-life being cancelled, it’s hard to know when our guests will be able to come back and visit our town to do the fun things they love. We’re staying optimistic in hopes of having a great summer season where we can return to providing a quality, friendly place to stay in Nevada City, as we’ve been doing for the last 22 years. In the meantime, like every small business around the globe, this is a challenging time, so, we’re hunkering down, being thankful for the place we call home and trying to find gratitude and joy in little things.
I am going to continue to try to share joy on a daily basis, so you can follow along our Instagram accounts (Outside Inn/Inn Town Campground/Visit Nevada City) to see my creative ways to try to stay positive.
