This year, the festival has expanded its programming to offer a full week of professional dance activities, including three evenings of performances by five professional dance companies, Master Classes for local dancers, and a Gala Reception for all dance company members and patrons, click here for more information.
The festival kicks off Tuesday, March 14 with the risk taking, muscularly elegant contemporary ballet of dawsondancesf followed by the exciting mix of classical and modern dancers of the Lake Tahoe Dance Collective and the imaginative, kinetic and intellectual Linda Bair Dance Company on Wednesday, March 15, and ending with the explosive, spiritual and primal Pisa Za Congo Dance Company featuring Vivien Bassouamina, and the theatrical athleticism of AirAligned aerial dance group on Friday, March 17. During the dance festival, the historic Miners Foundry will transform into its comfortable industrial loft type setting, with the professional dancers performing completely surrounded by the audience seated in chairs on the floor of the Osborn/Woods Hall. Following each performance, dancers will participate in a Question & Answer with the audience, allowing further exploration and learning.
“The Nevada City Dance Festival is presented with support from the California Arts Council’s Local Impact Grant,” said Gretchen Bond, Executive Director of the Miners Foundry. “With their help, along with our partners, Nevada Union High School Theatrical Dance Department, Holt Ballet Conservatory, Sierra Dance Institute, and KSK Dance Collective, we are presenting one of the most comprehensive displays of professional dance ever experienced in the Sierra Foothills.”
