Miners Foundry, Nevada City

The Outside Inn and Miners Foundry have teamed up to offer an art and dance lovers ultimate getaway package.  Book one night at the Outside Inn between November 17-19th and receive 10% discount on your stay, plus 2 free tickets to the performance of your choice during the Nevada City Dance Festival*. The inaugural event features two professional dance performances by visiting companies including the exciting contemporary San Francisco ballet company, dawsondancesf on Tuesday, November 17, and the internationally renowned Afro-Cuban dancer, Kimberly Miguel-Mullen on Thursday, November 19, at the historic Miners Foundry Cultural Center.

Last August, the Miners Foundry Cultural Center was awarded a grant by the California Arts Council to be used to support the production of the festival. These grants were awarded to smaller arts organizations for the purpose of providing project support and fostering equity, access and opportunity to arts programs in smaller communities.

dawson dance sf has been described as “raw, chilling physicality” and “So You Think You Can Dance” on steroids.”  For the November 17th performance, Dawson has choreographed a piece specific for the Miners Foundry’s beautiful Osborn/Woods Hall.

Kimberly Miguel-Mullen is an acclaimed choreographer and dance ethnologist.  The Los Angeles Times has described her movement as “spectacularly supple,” a well-crafted mixture of Silvestre contemporary dance and traditional techniques from the African diaspora.  She is considered one of the world’s best Afro-Cuban dancers and has performed in the USA, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba and Hong Kong.

On November 19th, Mullen will perform Yemanjá: Mother of the Deep, an inspirational performance piece; a creative interplay of live music, song and dance that will engage and transport its audience on a journey that evokes the transformative spirit of the sea.

Now for the giveaway, post a comment here on the blog to win a pair of tickets to one of the two shows.  Winner for the pair of tickets will be announced on Saturday, November 14th.

*The Outside Inn and the Miners Foundry have worked together to give a special promotion, book a room at the Outside Inn on Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday next week and receive 10% off your stay, plus the first three reservations will also receive 2 free tickets to the Nevada City Dance Festival.  For those locals who have been looking for a reason to have a staycation in Nevada City, this might be the perfect opportunity!

This entire event is going to be fantastic! I know of Kimberly Miguel Mullen’s work from dance workshops I have taken; can definitely recommend her performance of YEMANJA, and….she will be teaching a FREE Afro-Cuban dance class on Wed. the 18th at the Miners Foundry, 4:30.
Was just thinking about attending the DawsondanceSF performance so would love to be entered in the drawing for this pair of tickets! Thanks for this post and opportunity.

This is a wonderful chance for we Nevada City residents to see world class dance right here in our historic Miners Foundry. Thanks to them and the California Arts Council for this. It does not surprise me that our cute little town will host a event of this caliber all you have to do is look at a list of current happening in Nevada City to realize the great range and depth of events that happen in our historic and 21st Century hamlet.
