Polly's Paladar, Nevada City Supper Club, photos by Erin ThiemPolly's PaladarHave you been to Polly’s Paladar?  The private supper club in the heart of downtown Nevada City offers a new chef and menu every month.  The November event was created by guest chefs Jesse Hanshaw and Nicole Regnier, from New Moon Cafe.  The 5 course meal included: biscuit with duck rillettes, poached quince, and duck bacon, spicy consommé with braised beef short ribs and kimchi, persimmon salad with pork belly rillons, bitter greens, pecans, and pomegranate, breaded pork shank torchon with celery root remoulade, mashed potatoes, and jus and popcorn panna cotta with salted caramel and caramel corn.

I’ve profiled the supper club on the blog before, click here,  here, here and here for previous supper clubs.  Culinary adventures have included: Argentian, Mexican, Italian, French, Japanese, Greek, Creole, Hawaiian and Wild Foods, to name a few.  Polly’s Paladar next event is Ember & Ice, a culinary journey through Iceland and Persia with Alina Hardin and storytelling by Izzi Tooinsky.

The Paladar has been profiled in Outside magazine and “started with a home kitchen and thrift store tables.  It also started with members signing up on a torn up piece of paper and now with the help of many technologically literate family and friends, it’s all automatic and online.  I have chefs emailing their resumes to me and actually adding Pollys Paladar on their own resumes. I have nearly 2000 members now and am floored by how this concept has taken off.  I genuinely do not believe that the supper club is mine. I feel that it belongs to all of us.  I hope that we continue to have the Paladar as a new type of gathering place and as a new way to interact with each other. The fact that Nevada City has embraced the supper club the way it has amazes me, ” says Megan Mccollam.  “We are still having fun, so much joy, how you could not be amazed by that?”

Post a comment and share your favorite Polly’s Paladar exerpience, if you’ve been.  If not, feel free to suggest to Megan future menu ideas or guest chefs.  Follow them on Facebook, Instagram or the website.
