Sierra Storytelling Festival

Great stories change lives. They excite, inspire, entertain and connect us to one another. The 34th Sierra Storytelling Festival returns to the historic North Columbia Schoolhouse on July 19th-21st.  This year the event welcomes award-winning international storytellers Kim Weitkamp, Motoko, Antonio Rocha, Tim Tingle, Kirk Waller, Dalymple MacAlpin and Liz Nichols for three days of song, dance, poetry, and stories.

Steve Sanfield loved the craft of storytelling, and delighted in the art. Thirty-four years ago he dreamed of bringing the best storytellers from around the nation to a schoolhouse.  For those thinking about bringing young children, please check out Sunday morning’s line up, Friday and Saturday evening not recommended for young children.

“Sierra Storytelling Festival is a dream for any storyteller/performer. Performing on stage under a ceiling of tree canopies, crisp sails, and blue skies; a warm and welcoming audience; delicious food and craft beer. Add to that a wide blend of stories and music and seriously, why would you do anything or go anywhere else that weekend?” asked Kim Weitkamp.

Gather your friends and family, pack a picnic and blanket and settle into a weekend where time stands still, magic and wonder fill the air, and the art of story is alive and well.  This year’s festival features local and organic food and drink, beer and wine, for purchase. Attendees should bring a pillow or blanket for provided bench seating or their own low-backed folding chairs, flashlight, and layered clothing as the days are warm and the nights are cool.  You can purchase tickets online or post a comment on this blog post for your chance to win a pair of tickets to the Friday evening or 4 tickets to Sunday’s kids event, winners will be announced on Monday, July 8th.  And if you know you’re going, the early bird ticket pricing ends at midnight on July 1st, so act quick!
