Have you been to Phoenix Obsidian Designs Trading Post in Grass Valley? Located at 101 Bank Street near Booktown and Carolines Coffee Roasters, the shop is like a living museum for Native American Arts and replicas. Dr. Susan Gleason’s vast archaeology background provides a great opportunity for locals and visitors to stop in and gets some hands-on education about Native American crafts and tools, some local (like the clapping sticks) to arrowheads, stone knives, tool replicas and bone tools. Open 7 days a week, check out the upcoming classes schedule for a chance to learn about skull painting, fur tanning or pine need basketry.

Nice one, Erin. Your pictures always make everything look so good. I’m glad you went in there. Susan has a unique thing going on there that deserves support!
Thanks Lillian for the suggestion, it was a great tie in with the classroom experience.
